Assignment #3 (Deaf Blind)

Deaf Blind - A term that categorizes individuals that have little or no hearing coupled with little or no vision.  This disability often limit/restrict their full participation in society without the use of services and technological aids within society.  Individuals with this disability often rely more heavily on their other senses to make of for their deficits in vision and hearing.

Low Tech

#1.  Braille is a low tech device that offers the Deaf Blind a method of using their touch.  They then interpret meaning using an alphabet that consists of a patterns of raised dots on a page.


#2. Sign language is another low tech method of communication among the Deaf Blind.  This can involve the use of touch between two individuals or if they still have the ability to partially see they can interpret the signs visually instead of with their hands.


Med Tech

#1.  IASL is an app that allows for the translation of sign language to and from another language.

#2. Tap Tap is an app that alert a Deaf Blind individual if there is some form of noise they should be aware of.  An example could be someone at the door.  If this occurs the app will vibrate to let them know.


High Tech

#1. The apex communicator is a tool that offers the Deaf Blind a method of communicating e-mails and text messages by syncing their Braille keyboard with an iPhone.
