ATT Class Assignment


1. Communication:  The transfer of information (intentional and unintentional) or ideas from one individual or another using verbal communication (spoken face to face), non-verbal communication (gestures), written communication (letters), visualization (images).

2. Methods of communication:      non-verbal cues, verbally, gestures, signing, braille, text message, E-mail, instant messaging, tone, writing, drawing, eye contact, touch, actions, songs, pictures, graphs, video, acting, Morse code

3. AAC is to communicate with the use of one or multiple methods of communication.  These may include such things as gestures, facial expressions and symbols or writing in order to communicate wants and needs.

4. People with severe communication disorders (either from birth or that have occurred later in life due to injury or disease) or who cannot speak.  Their families and friends will also be using the devices.

5. Three criteria for effective communication:      1. Common language
                                                                        2. Active listening
3. Communication partner

Vantage Lite: This product is an acc for literate individual.  It would be used to express needs and wants.

Communication board:  These are used for speech impairment and are low technology.
 
Little Mack:  This moderate technology is great for individuals with communication problems.  This device can record up to 2 mins of speech.
Sign Language:  This low technology ACC allows for the user to sign if they are non-verbal as well as individuals who may be hearing impaired.

Personal Talker:  Allows for an image to be displayed and 10 seconds of recorded message to be heard.

Tec/Speak: This is low tech and is used as an AAC for non-verbal learners.  It allows for playback of messages.
I can speak:  This is a high tech app that helps those who are unable to speak communicate.

MACAW:  Pictures or words that are used relay messages.  The keys contain the messages.

Talktrac: This wearable communication device permits the user to have 8 messages and a lengthy recording time.  Talktrac can be used with autistic children as an aid in social situations.
Partner Plus: This low tech device is made up of 4 block with 8 messages.  This would be use for basic communication needs.
