The Writing Process
As a high school immersion teacher I do not find myself breaking down the writing process to its simplest form. Our intro activity made me realize how little in fact I did know. As we began writing the necessary skills and actions needed to complete the writing process. When I compared the process and necessary skills, they paled in comparison to the vast list that included such things as motivation and pen manipulation. With this I began to reflect upon the levels and understanding that was necessary and I soon became overwhelmed with the process. The thought of not only discovering what my students need, but how to get them the help they need is something that is very complex and wish to discover.
School for me was a happy place as I steadily when through my school career. In this place things came fairly easy and saw success regularly with few obstacles in my way. Often, I feel as though an activity like writing with your wrong hand give me the insight needed to gain some insight into the difficulty that have a disability may present when the proper assitive technology is not in place. When writing with my good hand I could write for a long time, yet when I was writing with my non dominant hand I quickly lost focus and wanted to give up. This was me working through something temporarily, while some students who are working without the assistive technology are living this reality everyday. This activity emphasized for me the importance of getting the proper assistive technology into the hands of the students who need it to reduce their frustrations and reach their potential.
